The Erie County WWII Memorial is dedicated the 725 men and two women that gave their lives in service to this nation during
the war years of WWII. Many, if not a majority of those listed on the memorial were never returned home for burial, and this memorial is all that is left to them in the city or county they were from. The south side of
the memorial is a pictorial history of the war and features photos of many of the boys lucky enough to have made it home after the war.
The memorial was spearheaded by Chairman John C, Ferguson, retired Erie
County Director of Veterans Affairs, and was built at a cost of about $200,000.00 which was raised from the community. Jane Earl was instrumental in attaining seed money for the project from the state of Pennsylvania.
The memorial is supported entirely by donations. If you appreciated the memorial both as a place of remembrance and as a beautiful asset to the Erie community, please make a donation designated to the Memorial
to the Erie Community Foundation, 127 West Sixth Street, Erie, Pennsylvania, 16501 |
